A World of My Own was billed as the “iTunes of games” during its announcement. It was a ridiculously big claim, an act of hubris perhaps – but I’ve been talking with Rob Donald of Game Domain International about the technology behind the company’s new distribution system, and it’s more accurate a soundbite than we once thought.
Virgin Games’ A World of My Own is accepting beta tester applications. As well as early (but NDA-ed) access, “if you’re chosen from one of the first 30,000 players to register you’ll be rewarded with big discounts and special on going privileges”.
Virgin Games’ upcoming rent-based digital distribution service has been officially announced and named as A World Of My Own. According to Richard Branson, Virgin’s chairman and a well known character in England, the curiously-named system “gives us the opportunity to do for PC games what iTunes has done for music”.
