Vintage success

Dressed up people, great music and as many free cupcakes as you wanted – The Vintage Tea Party in Foxes was a success.

Foxes Café in Abbey Street opened their doors about a year ago and since then the place has grown in to an incredibly popular venue for cultural events in Carlisle. On February 23 it was time for the café’s second Vintage Tea Party with loads of clothes and items on sale for the one with an eye for the past.

The evening started off very busy, packed with dressed up fashion fans. Amy Rebecca Dunn was one of them; “I went to the vintage party last year but this one is so much busier!” she said.

Cocktails and coffees were on the menu as people mingled with designers and friends. Helen Little, Carlisle’s very own hat designer, was one of the people attending.  “I make some of my hats in vintage material so that’s why I have them displayed here today,” she explained. Helen started her own business in the summer of 2009 and has since had some attention in the local press. “It’s been great fun and it’s lovely to be here today,” she said. “It’s really busy.”

Vintage clothing can date to the 1920’s but it’s the 80s originals that are most in demand. “I just love it,” said Lauren Moore, a visitor who bought herself a 1950s jewellery holder and a 1980s brooch. “The prices are very reasonable and I must add the venue is beautifully decorated,” she said.

The evening was organised by Fran Boyd, owner of Botchergate vintage shop Goodbye Norma Jean.
