Festival opened doors to creativity

The University of Cumbria played part in a one-day culture festival, supported by Freerange, an independent group of artists, on November 21. The event, BITE, was set up in order to showcase the arts and creativity Carlisle has to offer.

An array of music, dance and live art, visual exhibitions, workshops and digital art could be found all over the town centre. In Foxes Café people joined a poetry workshop with New York poet George Wallace. Outside, in the rain, Contemporary Art Students from the UoC had set up stations of plastic glass, encouraging people to draw pictures of Carlisle on it. The result was later displayed upstairs in the Griffin.

The  Central Methodist Hall, Market Square, Tullie House and Tithe Barn were also among the venues taking part in the event. In the afternoon, former Creative Writing tutor Nick Pemberton was one of many reading poetry to the sound of improvised music. To hear his reading, click here:
