Told You So !!!!

I was here about a month ago and posted about me being banned ... Everybody laughed and made fun of me ... but I was just trying to make a statement that I did not cheat and that I didn't want other innocent people to get banned for cheating. Well today I get an interesting email.

Link to first post.

Dear Steam user,

Your Steam account was recently banned by Valve Anti-Cheat (VAC) in error.
We apologize for this error, and the ban has since been removed.

It appears that VAC detected foreign software running on your computer
while you were playing Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® 2 or Call of Duty®:
Black Ops. VAC interpreted this as a cheat, which resulted in your ban.
Upon further analysis we believe that the foreign software was not cheat
software but was, instead, malicious software, namely a variant of the
trojan SpyEye which may have infected your computer.

You can read about variations of SpyEye here:
http://www.microsoft.com/security/po...ia/Entry.aspx?
Name=Trojan:Win32/Spyeye

We strongly urge you to run a complete anti-virus scan with an up to date
anti-virus product, however we do not know whether anti-virus software
detects this variant.

We also encourage you to visit http://support.steampowered.com and let us
know what anti-virus product you use and how it dealt with this trojan. If you
open or update a support ticket about this issue, we can provide you with
further assistance.

Just wanted to share that ...

Show us pictures of your email, and your Steam community while it was banned, and how it looks now.

Keep a shot of the date in there, too.

That sounds like a confirmation of the OP's story.

But how did you get infected with something that's detected since August? Your PC security is lacking.

First, i never posted in his previous thread about his ban. Check it yourself if you don't believe me.

Second, i never say that VAC is perfect, i say that the chance of a false positive is extremely small. Although it's a bit unsettling to have two false positives in half a year.

Third, i always say that in a case of a false positive a ban will be removed. This once again clearly happened.

Fourth, to be infected by something that is not able to spread itself (which means he must have downloaded something infected!) that is detected by Antivirus tools for months is a clear indication of lacking PC security. It's not that hard to install an Antivirus program and keep it up to date, normally they do that themselves without the need of user interaction. A good (and free!) Antivirus is Microsoft Security Essentials.

Now, if you want to troll, do that somewhere else. Also, try harder.

Was I trolling again? If so, sorry, I didn't mean it.

Nice to see you got some justice.

Not nice to see all the troll comments in your last thread though, how come all there are very few banned forum accounts for all the users that were trolling that thread?

Just like the people that were rightfully complaining about the MW2 false bans, they got treated like and the trolls got away with it.

The question remains though, what about all this "your account is your responsibility"? Is it not true?

A file which is mistakenly identified as a cheat is not, in fact, an account security issue, surely?

But it's a virus type file.

If a virus gets into your system, that's your responsibility.

Glad you got through it. Anyway, the forums aren't the right place to complain/report/whine about a VAC ban. If you try the forums on VAC concerns anyway, expect being sh--tted on I'm not saying it's your fault that everybody p00ped on you being a cheater etc but you should have expected it

If the virus was stealing your credentials and passing them on to someone else, who stole your account and used it to cheat, then the account security message would be applicable.

As it is, it was just being mistakenly identified as relevant to VAC's interests.

You infected your PC. You got banned. You were told to contact Steam Support. They cleared it up.

Why are you gloating? Everything worked as it should.

If you're gloating because people called you a hacker, well you should lurk more in the VAC forums. During the height of MW2 insanity, this forum had several locked MW2 threads per day. Posters had no patience with the MW2 crowd.

Also, stop downloading whatever it is that you download. Or else it'll happen again, and you might not be so lucky next time.

I would be quite concerned if I had some Spyware running on my machine for months, undetected. I hope your parents don't use that machine for banking or online bill pay.
